Tours with Children

I believe Shetland is an ideal holiday destination for young children.  But we are on the 60° North latitude line, so it’s a good idea to bring jumpers & jackets.

We are blessed with hundreds of lovely beaches, burns (a burn is the Scottish name for a small brook or stream), playing parks and picnic places.  But the weather isn’t always as accommodating as we’d like, so there is also the option of indoor entertainment.  Some free, but some do cost money.

Luckily the leisure centre toilets are all free of charge and are lovely and warm, with good roomy baby changing facilities.  We have 8 leisure centres spread through the isles with lovely spacious facilities and friendly welcoming staff.  Locations | Shetland Recreational Trust (srt.org.uk).  There are also plenty of public toilets the length and breadth of Shetland, they are cleaned regularly but are less luxurious to use.

Being a wheelchair accessible car, Winnie has a huge storage area with plenty of room for bags, buggies, and all the other paraphernalia that comes with traveling with small children.  Also, to make life a bit easier, I’ve laid in a selection of washable toys for you to use. They get a good wash between customers.   As do my stash of facecloths and towels – they’re laundered at 60°C (108°F).  Plus, I always carry plenty of disposable paper hankies & wet wipes.

Although I have no children of my own, I have lots of nieces and nephews.  I even have a grand niece and nephew!  So, I know how quickly they can get mucky when they’re enjoying themselves.  Don’t worry about mucky feet, juice spills or ‘accidents’ in my car – what can’t be hoovered up will come off with soap and water.

I’ll happily email you a few suggestions to make up a rough itinerary or we can play it by ear on the day.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
CAR SEATS

Winnie (my car) is specifically designed to be wheelchair accessible & the seats do not have ISOFIX attachment points. However, I have two car seats available that suit children from 15 months to 12 years. They are Joie Elevate Group 1/2/3 R44.04.

Some isofix car-seats are designed to be safely used without isofix attachment points, and you are obviously welcome to bring your own child’s seat if you know how to install them without the isofix attachment points.  But you’ll need to be able to do it yourself.   I can only guarantee that I am able to correctly fit my own car-seats.
